Safety Management System RAMP.K

The objective of the Safety Management System is to eliminate fatalities and Lost Time Injuries. At the cornerstone of this is the workers empowerment policy ‘if it's not safe, don't do it'.


SHE Activities:

  • Risk assessments, Inspections, Planned Job Observations on tasks being performed, Accident simulations, Fire drills, Safety talks
  • Safety Notice Boards, Electronic Information Boards (Located at IBU Main gates)
  • Incident/Accident investigations/reviews

System Monitoring
In order to ensure compliance, the system is monitored through:

  • Inter-departmental cross sectional audits
  • Internal Audits (KCM) on biannual basis
  • External Audits on annual basis by the British Safety Council (BSC)
  • Safety Inspections
  • Reports

–Daily incident reports (24 hours)
–Weekly statistics
–Monthly reports
–Quarterly reports

  • Annual report Chief Executive Officers Safety Competition
  • Safety meetings and performance reviews
  • Safety performance recognition awards.

International Accreditation/Certification

  • Member of British safety Council (BSC)
  • Audited by the British Standards Institute (BSI) & BSC
  • OHSAS 18001 Certification Starting in 2005
  • 3 Star Rating on the BSC the 5 star Best Practice – Nchanga IBU (2009)
  • 2 Star Rating on the BSC 5 Star Best Practice – KDMP Project (2010)
  • BSC International Safety Award in 2008, 2009.
  • Zambia Federation of Employers 1st Prize in Safety and Occupational Health (2010)
  • Golden Peacock Award (2008)
